UNC School of Law is pleased to welcome four new faculty members this school year.
Clinical Associate Professor Peter Nemerovski joins the UNC School of Law faculty from the University of Miami School of Law. He teaches Research, Reasoning, Writing and Advocacy I and II.
At Miami, Nemerovski taught Legal Communication and Research Skills, a required writing course for first-year students, and he developed and taught an advanced writing course for upper-level students as well as a writing course focused on products liability law. He also served as the faculty advisor to the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and was an affiliated faculty member of the law school’s Social Justice Concentration.
Nemerovski has published articles in the Arizona Law Review Syllabus, Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Writing and The National Jurist. His conference presentations focus on teaching professionalism, the feedback and revision process and annual nationwide surveys of legal writing programs. After graduating magna cum laude from Princeton University and earning his law degree cum laude from University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, he clerked for Judge Damon J. Keith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. From 2003 to 2010, he practiced commercial litigation with large law firms in Los Angeles and Miami.
Clinical Assistant Professor Tiffany Camp is also a reference librarian at the school’s Kathrine R. Everett Law Library. In addition to teaching Advanced Legal Research, she serves as a liaison to several faculty members, provides reference services at the Reference Desk and assists faculty and students with their research needs.
Camp graduated from the University of Virginia and completed her J.D. at the University of Connecticut School of Law. Additionally, she earned her master's degree in information and library science at the University of Washington. Camp is an active member of the American Association of Law Libraries and the Southeastern Chapter of American Association of Law Libraries. She previously interned at the University of Washington Law Library, Yale Law Library and worked at the University of Connecticut Law Library and Hartford Public Library.
Clinical Assistant Professor Nicole M. Downing ’12 is also a reference librarian at the school’s Kathrine R. Everett Law Library. She teaches Advanced Legal Research and focuses her reference work on student services through instruction and research assistance. She previously worked as the reference and instructional services librarian at the University of Miami Law Library.
Downing earned her bachelor’s degree in marketing communication and writing, literature and publishing from Emerson College. She then completed her J.D. at UNC School of Law. While in law school, she was executive editor of the North Carolina Journal of Law & Technology, which published her article “Using Fair Use to Stop a Copyright Troll from Threatening Hyperlinkers.” After law school, she earned her master’s degree in library science at UNC and worked as a graduate assistant at the law library. Her master’s thesis, "The UNC Law Library's Redaction of its Digitized Collection of North Carolina Supreme Court Briefs: A Case Study” won the 2014 AALL/LexisNexis Call for Papers in the Student Division.
Clinical Assistant Professor Allison Symulevich is also a reference librarian at the school’s Kathrine R. Everett Law Library. She joined the library in 2016, following an internship at the University of Washington’s Gallagher Law Library. In addition to assisting faculty, students and other library patrons at the reference desk and through research appointments, she teaches Advanced Legal Research.
At Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., Symulevich majored in both political science and Hispanic studies. She received her law degree from the University of Florida, and her master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Washington. Following law school, she practiced law in Florida, working at a firm in the commercial litigation practice group. Symulevich is a member of the American Association of Law Libraries, the Southeastern Chapter of American Association of Law Libraries, and the Academic Law Libraries Special Interest Section Continuing Education Committee.
