UNC School of Law welcomed Paul Rollins to its staff Aug. 18 as the new associate dean for student affairs. In his role at UNC, Rollins will oversee the admissions, student services and career development offices. Rollins will replace Richard Myers II ’98, Henry Brandis Distinguished Professor of Law, who completed his three-year appointment in 2013 but agreed to stay on for a fourth year while the law school searched for a replacement.

The position was restructured from a part-time faculty appointment to a full-time staff appointment in response to the increasing complexity of the admissions and career placement functions in the changing law school and legal markets, according to Dean John C. “Jack” Boger ’74.

“Law student recruitment has changed dramatically in the last few years as we have seen the number of LSAT takers shrink nationally by about 40 percent,” says Boger. “And the legal career market, though slowly recovering, is still highly competitive. We are committed to bringing in strategic leadership to help guide our dedicated staff through these uncharted waters and to ensure that we continue to enroll the best and brightest students and offer them an exceptional level of service while they are here.”

Rollins, a native of South Carolina, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and his J.D. degree from Yale Law School. He joins UNC from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he served as associate dean for administration and student affairs since 2008. Prior to that, Rollins was assistant dean for admissions and student services at the University of South Carolina School of Law.

“Everyone who talked with us about Paul spoke in superlative terms, describing him as one of the finest, and nicest, people they had worked with,” says Boger. “We look forward to welcoming him into the staff at Carolina Law.”
